In terms of stats, the 40-piece sets were pretty good...kind of similar (not very many new abilities), but they introduced a lot of fun minis into the game, and entire factions have been redone and a good number of very old and formerly useless minis have become competitive pieces (take Nute Gunray, for example).
However, the sculpts were kind of boring (with some exceptions), and the paint jobs were horrible on some minis. If you haven't seen it yet, don't look at a picture of a 501st Stormie from The Dark Times.
I'm not much of a completionist, but I didn't like getting a guaranteed 90% of the minis in a set with a case. It took a lot of the fun out of opening the boosters, when all you look forward to seeing out of a new set are those VRs you wanted, because you already know what commons/uncommons/rares you're getting.

Ok, that was kind of what perspective I got from other casual players just as I was getting out of the game.
Lol. How did the 501st Stormtrooper end up working? Affinity for Republic?

The 501st is kind of interesting, but the pieces aren't exceptional. They die way too easily, especially in the age of Yobuck and the IG Lancer. WotC didn't go with Affinity, they just made separate pieces. They made the 501st Legion Clone Trooper (Cost 8, HP 10, Def 14, Atk 5, Dmg 20, Order 66, Trooper (Counts as a character named 501st Clone Trooper), Squad Assault), the 501st Legion Stormtrooper (Cost 11, HP 20, Def 16, Atk 8, Dmg 20, Rapport (-1 with Vader), Squad Assault, Squad Firepower), the 501st Clone Trooper (Cost 13, HP 20, Def 14, Atk 8 , Dmg 20, Order 66, Double Attack, Squad Assault), the 501st Legion Clone Commander (Cost 15, HP 50, Def 16, Atk 10, Dmg 10, Order 66, Trooper (Counts as a character named 501st Clone Trooper), Twin Attack, CE: Followers whose name contains 501st get +10 damage against enemies with a Force rating), and Captain Rex, 501st Commander Cost 41, HP 80, Def 16, Atk 13, Dmg 30, Unique, Order 66, Flight, Double Attack, Greater Mobile Attack, CE: Allies with Order 66 that end their move within 6 squares of this character can move two extra squares at the end of their turns.). There's also a Darth Vader, Sith Apprentice (Cost 46, HP 130, Def 19, Atk 12, Dmg 20, Unique, Melee Attack, Double Attack, Affinity (A character whose name contains 501st may be in your squad regardless of faction), Djem So Style, Force 2, Force Renewal 1, Force Grip 1, Lightsaber Riposte, Sith Rage, CE: Non-Unique 501st allies within 6 squares gain Cunning Attack.) who brings 501st characters from the Republic into the Empire.

Huh. Not too bad, but nothing special. That Vader looks pretty good...he just needs Triple. Lol.

Yeah. Triple or some sort of nonmelee defense. He doesn't really need melee defense because he'll just rip them apart with Djem So Style, LS Riposte, and Opportunist from IE Thrawn, but nonmelee will take him down easily.

Right. I like my Anakin better.

Lol. Which one? Champion of the Light?

No, Fallen Jedi. He fills the same role, lol.

LOL. I just assumed it was CotL, because I know how much you love those pieces. But, looking at Fallen Jedi's stats again, I see what you mean. Both Fallen Jedi and WotC's Sith Apprentice fill the exact same roll. I like yours better, it is really the ultimate Jedi killer.

Yeah, and he's meant to be mainly offense. But I do like the CotLs, as you know. Haha. The Vader, Sith Apprentice pose isn't too bad, though.

Ehh, it's okay. I would have preferred a hood and robes, like when he first marches into the Jedi Temple with the 501st. Something a bit more relaxed like that wouldn't be very in character, though, and it would be similar to the old Anakin Skywalker, Sith Apprentice (which is one of my favourite 'old' pieces).

Yeah - he's fun. I ended up pulling him, which was really fortunate.

Lucky pull. I never pulled him; I got into the game after RotS was released. He is a lot of fun to play, though. Especially as a (somewhat) cheap swapper in IE Thrawn squads.

Yeah. He and Palps can barely fit in a squad together, which is nice.

Lol. The lack of FR is somewhat disappointing, yeah. Lately though, I've taken a personal liking to squads with IE Thrawn and Vader, Scourge of the Jedi. I like to play around with putting other characters in at 200, such as Palpatine, or Ozzel, and some supporting attackers. The one I plan on trying out next features Boba BH and Jarael.
