This thread's been quiet for awhile, so I'm going to remove the annoncement. Actually, since we've finished TNLT, we seem to have gone dormant here; not that we all haven't earned a well deserved rest, but perhaps, if nothing else, maybe we could start planning another project. We came up with this idea in the middle of TNLT. This one or something else?? Or are we all still on extended leave?

I feel like if we want to do something as a group again, maybe we should try to drum up some new blood. Having 3-5 people working on a fairly sporadic basis isn't necessarily the best way to do something.
Fortunately, we have the Lost 20 set as a "calling card", but I guess the question is "What to do?"
We COULD try to clean everything up, but I wonder at the usefulness of that. By the time we get finished, we'll probably need to start over again!
The new V-Sets seem to render a lot of what we'd want to do moot (since, based on the first set, there seems to be a lot more responsiveness to the fine-tuning issues of the game that many customizers attempt to remedy).
I don't know... I kinda feel like I'd be happy to work on the right project, but I have no idea what that project should be. I'm not really that interested in cleaning up something like 1000+ existing pieces that have been created through the years to different standards.

I agree with Gw on my disinterest in reviewing/revising customs already in the archive. I suspect a fair number in there are broken, have been rendered obsolete with new sets, powers, and abilities, or simply have been improved by others over the years. Many of their creators may not even be around anymore to give opinions.
I also believe that if we're ever going to get more people in here, its now; but I also believe that if we want them to come in, and actually take part, we need to come up with something worth doing that will draw people in and make them Want to take part.
I've seen some of the V-Set people have been asking about some of us possibly taking part in their work. Perhaps we should volunteer to "sub-contract" some of their workload in some way. It may bring in new people which could help us in the long run.
I must confess I know very little about the V-Set. They've kept their work under a tight lid as opposed to the wide open forums here ... opinions taken on Gamers but the actual work behind closed doors.
Opinions Gentlemen?

I agree that this project is probably not worth continuing at this point. If we had a much larger group of members, it would definitely be possible, but with less than half a dozen members it would simply take too long to complete to be worth starting.
I also agree that we should try and attract more people to the site as quickly as possible. Some sort of contest, project, or something to do with the V-sets would be a good start. I don't know exactly what this contest/project would be, though. Does anyone have any ideas?
Should we try and see if any past members are still interested in customs? Some may have simply forgotten about the site, and it could be worth a try to see if they are interested in coming back. I could send a mass email to all our members, asking if they would like to return.
Further, I could PM some customizers on Bloo Milk who might be interested in joining this site. Those who submitted custom sets for the January 2010 stat contest would be a good start, and others who frequent the customs board there could be interested. I'd say it's worth a shot.
I also have an idea that could encourage member participation, once we get them here, but I'm still trying to figure out the specifics.
What do we think?

I also have an idea that could encourage member participation, once we get them here, but I'm still trying to figure out the specifics. What do we think? What is this idea? It involves 'secret' boards (which you may have noticed before - Jm419, Sharrakor, and myself each have one). The boards aren't really secret; I guess a better term would be 'hidden', as there boards don't show up on the homepage. Members who contribute significantly to the site (ie, they have more than 1000 posts, bring in additional members to the site, etc.) could apply to a moderator for their own board, where they could post their customs. Obviously, it would have to be well-managed so as to avoid a situation in which personal boards become more active than the main boards. It would, however, make posting large amounts of customs easier for members. The main boards could be left to customs that a member wants to be put in the database, or if they want a wide variety of opinions on their work. Should a problem arise where personal boards become too popular (ideally, they should be little more than a 'staging ground', or a place for members to organize their work for viewing, rather than commenting), there are administrative features (such as preventing anything from being posted on the board, or just disabling replies on the board) that can fix the problem. The only other problem I can see is that members may feel annoyed if someone else has a board while they don't, or if members feel like they deserve a board when they haven't contributed to the site enough. I think this problem could be avoided as long as the 'requirements' for getting a board are clearly defined, and are non-negotiable. The personal boards should be attractive for a lot of customizers, and they could help increase site participation. That said, do you guys think it's a good idea? I'm not too sure myself, but all things considered, I don't see any reason not to do it at this point - we really don't have anything to lose. Also, if we DO go ahead and initiate this plan, do we think it would be best to 'advertise' the personal boards, or would it be better to wait awhile? That brings us to the first step in growing the site - bringing in new/old members. Does anyone have any ideas as to how we should go about this?

I think it's more than recosting. I'm sorry to say, but there are so many flat out worthless special abilities. I understand some of them are there for solid purposes, but a ton are not needed. the whole point of this board is to make creative and fun to play pieces. who cares if you deem them worthless, many pieces are not used often in competitive play in the WOTC game. if you feel the need to point out a specific instance of a broken mini or ability, make that claim. but to think you can just arbitrarily alter stats for some unspecific or ambiguous goal of playability.... well i don't think thats the best idea. one might say it leads to the path of the dark side. anyway thats just my two cents
