I would like to post some Fanon and Non-Star Wars minis that I have made? If this does happen, it should be in it's own board and the minis should NOT be put in the official database.
Like if I make a Sith Lord that is an Imperial, it would not go to the Imperial database instead it should go to the Imperial database in the "Fanon" Board if they so agree.

There are plenty of fanon characters in databases already, no need to make a seperate forum for them. Check out the Imperial Database, all the red entries are fanon. Non Star Wars might merit it's own forum, since they wouldn't fit in any other factions.

All fanon minis are in red? That is cool, so I could tell which is canon or not.
Could we have a Non-Star Wars board? I'll be the Mod for it, if you would like.

Yep, all fanon is in red and all canon characters are linked to the wookieepedia article (just click on the name) Just double check with all the other JCM's, as long as we're all in agreement, go ahead.

Actually, I've been trying to keep fanon out of my databases. I think a new board would be good, but we need to keep it under control this time, unlike the Non Star Wars board last time around.

Really Jm? You don't like fanon?

It's not so much that I don't like fanon as that fanon devalues the other miniatures in the database. Only the creator ever uses fanon, as compared to the other canon which is used by other members. Fanon, while occasionally academically interesting, is typically not used by anyone other than the member who created it. Honestly, you wouldn't care how good my RPG character was, and wouldn't care about the stats that I made for it. Besides, it takes attention away from the canon in stat creation. So, no, I would not really ever include fanon in the canon databases. [/rant]

Hmm. Very interesting, and I definately see your point. However, say someone is looking for a dark jedi to use, they don't care who it is or what he does, they just want their own dark jedi. They could easily find some in the databases.
One thing we could do is separate the fanon from canon in the databases. The first list would be canon, the second fanon. Does that sound ok?

One the one hand, I'm inclined to agree with JM about fanon devaluing the other customs (and my initial instinct in this thread was to vote "No, don't do it!").
On the other hand, isn't everything we do here fanon of a sort? Even if the character is from an official source, these are "fan interpretations," so it's sort of a slippery slope.
Having said that, I'm a big fan of context, so I think the fanon pieces should be delineated in some way. For that matter, when any of us are working on a "set", I think it should clearly be delineated. For example, if I'm looking at one of Sharrakor's pieces for his Prelude to Rebellion set, I try to view it in context of the other pieces in the set (as well as official WotC pieces), rather EVERY custom we've got here.

Lol Gwek, yes, technically everything that isn't in a Star Wars movie, game, book, or comic is fanon. All of SWM is fanon. Think about it.
I would be perfectly fine with a separate database board (or even a thread within the existing boards) to keep Fanon separate from canon. I think that the thread below "Finalized Mandalorians" would be the easiest.

What about Non-Star Wars?

Eh. That really got out of hand last time - we had to burn that board to the ground in order to kill it. It took away from the rest of the site. We can do it, but it needs to stay under control. Do you think we can do that?

The thing is, we all started creating crazy stuff to represent people or things outside the realm of SW. This ended up in LOADS of new abilities, new ratings instead of force (I especially remember "Smash" points for Brawl characters) and just a ton of extra stuff. Plus, the customs aren't really useable unless you just want a for fun battle that includes other universes. Perhaps a small board would be possible. But, like Jm said, it would have to stay under control.
