The Jedi Exile
Cost: 46
Rarity: Very Rare
Faction: Old Republic
Hit Points: 100
Defense: 21
Attack: 12
Damage: 20
Unique
Melee Attack; Double Attack
Adaptive Style (Usable only on this character's turn; this character may gain a single special ability that contains the name Style if a character within 6 squares has that ability)
Force Empathic 10 (Takes 10 damage whenever an ally with a Force rating is defeated)
Force Instruction (At the start of the skirmish, choose an allied Unique character. If that ally does not have a Force rating, it gains Force 1 and can spend this Force point normally; it is considered to have a Force rating for the rest of the skirmish. If that ally already has a Force rating, it gets 1 Force point.)
Force 6
Lightsaber Defense (Force 1: When hit by an attack, this character takes no damage with a save of 11)
Force Whirlwind (Force 2, replaces attacks: range 6; 20 damage to target and each character adjacent to that target; save 11)
Sith Hunger (Force 1, replaces attacks: range 6; 20 damage to target living enemy, and remove 20 damage from this character. If the target has Force points remaining, transfer 1 Force point from the target to this character)
Commander Effect: Droids are subject to this effect: Unique followers gain Protective +10 (+10 Damage while a wounded ally named the Jedi Exile is within 6 squares).
Design Notes
Everyone's got their own take on the Exile, and this one is mine (with a bit of thanks to Sharrakor!). Her stats are solid, but nothing faction-shattering. She has a pretty high defense, but lacks the Lightsaber Duelist of many of her peers.
With special abilities, she starts to differentiate herself from other similar Jedi. Force Empathic, which represents the downside of her ability to create Force bonds, mirrors Jacen Solo (who was actually one of the characters I looked to for inspiration).
Adaptive Style is my stab at the special ability Sharrakor created to reflect the Exile's ability to quickly master lightsaber styles. In the video game, you can select which Form you fight with (once you've learned them), and I thought the ability to switch between Forms on this character's turn reflect that pretty well (and, of course, will inspire you to bring along allies who have different styles whenever possible).
The Force powers are somewhat utilitarian, but I wanted to use them to reflect the dangerous, potentially destructive, nature of the Exile. It's no accident that two of the powers I gave her are "bad" powers (although I stayed away from the more obvious ones, like Sith Lightning and Sith Rage). Sith Hunger, I though, was important to underscore the theme that Nihilus is the Exile gone terribly, terribly wrong.
Finally, there's the commander effect, which reflect the beneficial side of the Exile's ability to form Force bonds. She can inspire her heroic allies to, well, greater heroics. While the ability to boost the damage her uniques can be quite powerful, I thought it was balanced by Force Empathy and the fact that the commander effect works only conditionally, when the Exile herself is injured.
