This project is the descendent of the Definitive Virtual Knights of the Old Republic Star Wars Miniatures project (the results of which can be seen here: ). The original DVKotOR focused on only the first KotOR game and was created long before WotC's own KotOR set, which means many pieces are now moot and/or outdated.
Consequently, in this post-KotOR, post-CW era, I'm hard at work on more sets. The idea here is to design 40 piece sets that may span both video games, the comics, and the general era. How many sets? We'll know when we're done! (But probably somewhere between 2 and 4.)
Below are some elements of design philosophy that I keep in mind when working on the set. I hope other folks will contribute, but please try to keep them in mind when possible.
Limit power creep: Look to existing WotC pieces as a model for where the limits are
The video game and the miniatures game are two different games: Not everything will translate
Fix, don't replace: Rather than create a new version of an existing piece, try to support the existing piece (unless it's a significantly different take on someone old, like a Sith Kreia, or Nihilus Unleashed)
Does this piece replace an existing piece? If a new piece will make an older one useless, I try to avoid
Does this piece add something interesting to the faction? Conversely, is it TOO interesting for a single piece?
Does this piece play to the strengths of the faction? Each faction has a different feel, after all
Suggest squads and team-ups: While I don't like things to feel forced, I really like when WotC sets up combos where you realize certain pieces work well together
